Friday, June 3rd: Vernon Hall

Friends of the Victor's hosted a party Friday night for Leonora and Brian and their out of town guests. Vernon Hall was built in 1847. The Owners bought it about 20 years ago and started renovating the property to its current glory. The front staircases are representative of southern entrances. Women would go up one side of the staircase and men would use the other. If a man looked at a woman's ankles, they could be forced to marry. It helped to have the women go up their own staircase as well because of the big bustle on the back of their skirts and the hoops.

Thursday, June 2nd..Rehearsal Dinner

Vic's on the River was the name of the restaurant we ate at. Vic is Leonora's great uncle we believe. The chandeliers were very old and elegant.

Brian and Leonora played a game where they would hold up their shoe if the question was about them or the other person's show if it was about the other person. For example: " Which one was a cuter baby?", "Which one had cuter friends?", "Which one was more into Carolina basketball?"...

 We don't know how old Nana's shoes were, but they did not survive the night. Time to get new ones.

Thursday, June 2nd Ashlin's post

Today was a "here and there" day I came from the hotel that looks like apartment rooms with a pool that is two inches shorter than me, to a fabulous hotel with lots of terraces. After that I was off to the Rehearsal Dinner.

The hotel is great. There are pictures on the walls, an amazing pool outside. And I get to see family that I haven't seen in a couple years.

The dinner was great, I got to meet Leonora's family. I already know Brian's... I'm his cousin. I had prime rib for dinner and a brownie for desert.

Wednesday, June 1st- Ashlin's Post

I found this really weird car named after a perfume. My mom thinks that I want this car because I said, "If only it came in teal," sarcastically.

                                            This is the full car.

                                                  Chanel (shanel) is a perfume. I think it's french.

                                                    The wheels are swirly and cool.

                                                  It has nice markings on the back.

 West Point and Fort Bragg were 2 military complexes we passed by on our drive today.

 These yellow flowers were between the highway throughout Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina. We are not sure what they are. We asked and were told they are not daffodils, but they might be some kind of tulip.

Ashlin has decided the car we found at the hotel will be hers when she gets older, but hers will be teal...of course! This car was parked near our hotel in South Carolina. We spent the night in Florence. We swam in the outdoor pool in the afternoon. Our pool actually has palm trees near it.

Tuesday's Pics

There were also tanks. I want to go inside them someday. On the drive today, we saw a giant roller skate. We went by it and couldn't get a pic.

 We passed a military museum on our way through Maryland or West Virginia that we want to stop at some time in the future.

 The top picture is of the mountain side in Pennsylvania, the bottom scene is the Blue Ridge Mountain range in Virginia. Can you tell why it's called that?

 Neeny drove through the only section of construction with bumper to bumper traffic. What took us 45 minutes to drive, should only have been 15 minutes.

At a rest stop in Virginia, we came across this butterfly. We thought it was alive, but it was not. We looked it up and found that it is a Two-Tailed Swallowtail. Three of it's tails are shortened. It was recently named the state butterfly for Arizona.

Monday's post a little late

 It reminded me that I need to contact Megan about riding Austin and Indy again. I miss riding.

On the way home from our camping trip we stopped at a horse competition in Crary Mills. All the horses were decked out in a little bling, had ribbons braided through their mains and/or tails, and were being groomed and washed to make sure they looked perfect for their showing. The saddles are English saddles (no horn to hold onto). We toured the barns and tack rooms as well as the indoor practice ring. The riders were dressed for competition. Several Potsdam students were competing. The competitors were both kids, teens and adults.

The first 2 pictures are Champ, Arian and Kyle's Horse. Arian came in Fourth during her ride, but we didn't get a chance to watch Kyle.
